Instruction Manual to Live By

When fighting the spiritual battle before us, we all need to remember two things:

1. Are minds and lives ARE bombarded with Satan’s fiery darts. The only thing the enemy wants more is to cause us to fail at being the light in the lives of those who are lost.

2. We all have the same instruction manual to fight these attacks with, and that is God’s Mighty Word! Read it, memorize it, and meditate on it. Calling out the Word of God snuffs out the enemy!

In times of doubt, fear, and anxiety remember who you are in Christ. I am Blessed, I have Divine Favor, I’m not alone, I’m a Child of God, I’m more than a conqueror, I put my trust in the Lord, I walk in the promises of God’s Holy Word because God has a Miracle for me! The church I attend states this at the end of each service.

Reading God’s word daily and reciting who we are in Christ is what we need to start doing to equip ourselves to fight the battle for our souls.

Bragging Rights

I had a coworker telling me about his father that he’d never met before. My coworker “Bob” was born on 9/11 and his father passed away on 9/10, he found this very ironic. He continued to “impress me”(sarcasm here) by explaining to me his dad is Italian and connected to the mob. Should I have been impressed? Really?

I have to say, I’ve found myself in this worldly trap of “who I know.” Somehow it brings importance to me as a person and makes me feel more relevant to whom I’m speaking to. But, in reality, I’m sure it’s as annoying to the person I’m talking to as it was to me while listening to “Bob.” And that is what spurred me to write this.

Instead of bragging about seeing a top Christian artist in concert, shouldn’t I flex my bragging rights by humbly letting others know I’m more relevant and vital as a daughter of the one TRUE KING?

While it may be hard for nonChristians to grasp this, think of the opportunity we have to show others what living a life in Divine Favor is all about! As God’s child, we have security, peace, joy, unconditional love, freedom, abundant grace, righteousness, wisdom, revelation, knowledge, authority, power, mercy, strength, redemption, rooted in faith, healing, self-control, we’re the head and not the tail, we only go up and not down in life. Praise God and Amen!

If you are reading this, I’d like to encourage you to brag on who you are in Christ, because that is what matters for eternity!

Jesus: The Deliverance of Zion

Reflecting on the Names and Nature of God

And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on
the name of the LORD shall be saved.
For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem
there shall be deliverance,
as the LORD has said,
among the remnant whom the LORD calls.

Joel 2:32

The phrase “Deliverance of Zion” is a reference to Jesus and has a twofold application. First, it is a reference to the future physical deliverance of the nation Israel. Armies shall come against Israel to destroy her, but when Israel calls upon the Lord Jesus, He will come to deliver the nation. Even though it’s only a remnant that calls on Him, the Lord will be the Deliverance of Zion. If the Lord has promised to deliver His people in the future, don’t you think He can come to deliver you in your present troubles?

Lord, I know You are my Deliverer. I call on You today to help me in my difficulties.

The second application is to those who call upon the Lord today. On the Day of Pentecost, Peter quoted Joel 2:28-32 and applied it to those who were listening to him that day (Acts 2:17-21). Your task is to call; the Lord’s task is to deliver. Your call must be sincere; are you a seeking believer? Your call must be toward the Lord, not to a church, religion or any other cause. Have you called to the Lord? When you call, it must be outward, because the Lord wants our outward response. You don’t have to shout; He can hear you if you whisper. The key is doing it–not thinking about it or planning to do it in the future. Call to Him now.

I call out, Lord. I have thought about it, but now I do it. I need You, Lord; come deliver me. Amen.

Pleasing Who?

I teach an exercise class in the mornings at the retirement community that I work at in Sparks NV. I was looking at the students following along with me thinking about how each one of us is a different size and shape. How would it affect our self-image if there weren’t such a thing as a clothing size? About 5 hours later, I was standing in line at DMV as two employees walked past me. I didn’t quite hear what the first lady said, but the reply from the other gal was, “Yeah, I’m a size 2.” Ironic.

Working in the Fitness Industry for many years, I’ve helped people achieve goals ranging from overall health and wellness to the so-called “Barbie” maniac with unrealistic expectations. The latter of the two is where I’ve always tried to paint a realistic picture for the client focusing on body type, bone structure, and last but not least, genetics. Let’s face it. We are all influenced by the picture perfect, rail thin, 6ft models airbrushed to the hilt and gracing the covers of many magazines. Deception begins!

What expectations do we impose upon ourselves by this worldly propaganda that plagues us daily? For me, it was more cardio, more weight lifting, and 10 grams or less of fat a day. I referred to it as extremely self-disciplined, and that it was! But really, what was my pursuit all about anyway? It was about doing what I loved, which was working out with the added benefit of potentially achieving the “so-called look” of what the world defined as beautiful. I had bought into the lie!

I was letting these magazines, clothing catalogs, and TV ads shape who I am and what I believe. If I look a certain way, talk a certain way, and live a certain way, then I will be worth more, loved more, and more accepted by others. Would I be part of the “in crowd”? I had to take a hard look at my motives and who I was becoming. Did I care what others thought to avoid facing rejection? I had to make a change to keep from becoming a shallow individual, but rather someone I could love, others could love and most importantly, that God could love. (His love is unconditional no matter how we feel)

God’s solution gives us the power to combat the lie. Galatians 1:10 says, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” This verse very clearly answers the questions I was asking myself. And, it makes me realize how dangerous it is to overemphasize what others think of me. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but rather by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” Romans 12:2. Paul implies several things here, first that there is a genuine pressure to conform to the pattern of the present world and to be squeezed into its mold. The current world is built on human wisdom and values, not God’s.

We need to resist the temptation to conform to the worldliness surrounding us. The alternative to conforming to this world’s values and lifestyle is a transformation of our minds, a change that only God can do within us. By reading God’s Word, our minds are renewed daily, our visions, values, and plans will be those of God, not our own! We can live a transformed life in Christ, being able to prove, and affirm that the will of God is good, desirable, and perfect! So I challenge you to open God’s Word and begin transforming your mind and life today!

Stand Tall in Christ,

The Journey to Freedom Begins!

I’m somebody because God says I’m somebody! Not because YOU say so but because God says so! He gets the glory for what I accomplish! Are you letting other people’s opinions shape who you are and what you believe? How do you think God sees you? Are you listening to your negative self talk?
The only opinion we should care about is God’s opinion. In the upcoming posts I will be elaborating on the questions above. Helping you take your thoughts about yourself to a new positive God glorifying level!

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you FREE.” John 8:32
